The history of the faculty dates back to the 1990s. During this period, due to the rapid industrial growth of the region, the expansion of infrastructure, and the rising demand for technological expertise, secondary specialized and technical educational institutions began to open extensively.
In 1993, in order to train highly qualified engineering and technical personnel for newly established industrial enterprises and institutions, the Aktau branch of Atyrau University was opened by order of the Minister of Education.
In 1996, this branch, together with the Aktau Polytechnic Institute, successfully laid the core foundation for Aktau State University named after Sh. Yessenov. Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, the university begins operating under a newly modernized organizational structure in accordance with the order of the Rector, solidifying the faculty’s role as a leading center for advanced engineering education.
